I have worked with the special needs community since high-school. I was involved in special Olympics and best buddies where I coached and did activities with special needs children and adults. In college I carried on attending special Olympics and participated in a club for two years and was the president for my last year. This club worked with 18-98-year-old adults with specials needs. We did math, art, and worked on social skills for an hour twice a week. I was also a teaching assistant at a special education middle/ high school for two years. It was during this time I met a 18-year-old boy diagnosed with autism and after realizing he was falling through the cracks of the foster system I then became an advocate for him as well. I plan on using my social work degree to continue to work with the special needs community as a clinician.
