I cared for my mom for a year, I rescued her from a dicey care facility in Sacramento and I brought her home to live with me. She was in an early stage of dementia where she still knew who I was. Her little body stayed strong right up until the end, she began to run away from our place, insisted she was going home. Our family decided she would do better with one of the boys so back to Sacramento. I learned how to help her bathe and dress her, helped her with her hair which she kept long. I cooked and cleaned and changed and washed lots of sheets. I did all the shopping and paying the bills. I was sad to see her go but relieved also that I would not be the one to find her gone or run over when she ran away. I learned to be very patient and I learned to not take it personally when she didn't know me or also when she asked me when she was going home. I bring all these things I learned with me when I care for your loved ones big , small or furry!
