About Jessica

In August I will begin teaching at a private school in Aventura. Mostly, I am looking to supplement my time with tutoring and expanding my teaching experiences. This past spring I worked as a long-term substitute middle school teacher in a private school in Miami Beach. In June 2014 I resigned from my position as a Life Skills 3rd-5th grade special education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia in order to relocate to Miami. My time teaching children with varying intellectual and social disabilities rewarded me with knowledge of classroom management in addition to the care and nurturing that students need to learn and develop. In August of 2013, I returned from Spain, where I taught English to children and adults in a language academy of the Ministry of Education in Spain. Throughout the year I tutored children and adults in English through an individualized curriculum as well as through 'play' with younger children. Before arriving in Spain, I completed my Master's degree in Special Education at Neumann University. During my graduate and undergraduate studies, I tutored students of varying abilities across a variety of subjects. I have experience teaching SAT, ISEE, research and writing with MLA and APA formats, English as a second language and basic humanities subjects. I have experience working with students with disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disability, Physical Handicaps, ADD and learning disabilities. In the past 7 years I have been fortunate enough to teach English abroad in the summers in Czech Republic, Italy, Germany (2 summers) and Spain (also during a semester abroad in 2008). I enjoy interacting with various cultures as well as traveling whenever possible. My hope is to be able to expand my knowledge of teaching as well as understand the growth and development of my students as they learn and acquire knowledge.
