My focus of emphasis, at Washburn, was in Adaptive Special Education. I received various coursework over properly working with students of special needs along with an eight-week student teaching internship working with a K-3 Elementary SPED teacher at a school in Lawrence, KS. I also plan to obtain a master's in Special Education in the near future. For work, I coach a Special Needs cheer team at G-Force Athletics where I worked with three Down Syndrome middle school girls. Each of my siblings have some sort of disability; specifically, an oldest brother with low-functioning Asperger's and Schizophrenia, older brother with high-functioning Asperger's, and an older sister with ADD, anxiety, and depression. Throughout my whole life, I have been surrounded by the concept of Special Needs, and I believe it is this life experience that has giving me the desire, passion, and heart to want to continue working with a wide-range of individuals with special needs.
