I have always wanted to work with children with disabilities for as long as I could remember. Through my major (Therapeutic Recreation), I plan to work in community based settings for children with disabilities. I have 4-5 years paid experience through substitute teaching for a special education classroom, where I worked in a 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 setting. I also have experiences through internships and clinicals during my schooling. I have experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and have experience following behavior management plans. I also have worked with children with hearing loss and physical impairments. I know basic American Sign Language, and have experience working with assistive communicative devices. I am First Aid/CPR/AED certified, and have worked for families in the past with children who have severe food allergies. Luckily, I never have had to use an EpiPen, though I know how too!
