My name is Jenna. I am 18 years old and a freshman in the Pforzheimer honors college at Pace University in Manhattan. I am double majoring in Spanish and women's studies, with a minor in music. I hope to work for Unicef and travel to Spanish-speaking countries and work with children with special needs. I am originally from Newington, Connecticut. I ended up in New York City because I love the city and Broadway. I am currently auditioning for shows and pursuing my dream while going to school. I have been involved in music and theatre since I was talk. I currently sing, act, dance, play the French horn, and the piano. I have been working with children since I was very young. I started as a mother's helper for my kindergarten teacher when I was 9 years old. I went to her house in the summer and watched her three daughters from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. while she ran errands. I did this every summer for three years, eventually becoming her au pair. I would go on all of their family vacations and trips. I began baby-sitting for my younger sister and neighbors when I was 12 years old. For one summer, I watched a 5-year-old boy with Down syndrome and his 2-year-old brother. I have baby-sat for a family with twin girls since they were born. They are currently 6 years old, and I still watch them every so often when I am home in Connecticut. I have had odd baby-sitting jobs for other families in my community also. During the summer of 2007, I interned at Bristol Hospital in the child care center. I worked with children of all ages, but my three main children whom I took care of were 6 weeks old, 6 months old, and 3 years old. This past summer, I worked at a parks and recreation summer camp in New Britain, Connecticut where I taught dance camp for eight 13-year-olds. I taught CCD for Saint Mary's parish this past year preparing first graders for their First Communion. I also, have taught children's liturgy at St. Mary's parish for the past three years, working with children from the ages of 2 to 7. From second grade until twelfth grade, I participated in unified sports. It is a club for children with special needs who are interested in participating with sports. I have met so many amazing people through this group who have helped me to become who I am to. I love working with children, especially children with special needs. They are so special in their own ways and have so much to teach you and show you. They just do it in their own way, and that is what I love!
