I interned for an after school camp for children on the Autism Spectrum in which I designed and facilitated activities and games for the children to participate in. I fell in love with the program and the kids and followed my passion to a position at The Autism Society of North Carolina as a Community Skills Instructor, shortly after my graduation in the Summer of 2013. Since then, I have worked with over 10 different children/adolescents on the Spectrum- 4 in extensive 1 on 1 setting. I have learned a great deal about Autism and how unique it is to each individual. I approach each individual with patience, kindness, acceptance and love and with a strong desire to help them navigate and grow in a community and home setting. My youngest participant that I have worked with was an 8-year-old kid and my oldest is 21. Although the Spectrum affects a wide range of areas from individual to individual, I understand the need for sensitivity towards sensory stimuli which tends to affect most individuals that fall in the spectrum and try my best to accommodate that in any/all ways necessary.
