I fell in love with caring for people with special needs when I volunteered in my high school's Life Skills program. I assisted in caring for about 10 students for 3 hours every day. I gained experience working with teens with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and a variety of other disabilities. It was the most valuable and rewarding experience of my life. I really enjoyed learning about each individual's needs and bonding with the students each in their own special way. After high school I spent a year caring for a woman with dementia and diabetes and her daughter who has Autism. I really enjoy being a companion and advocate for my friends with special needs.
