Being a Physical Therapist, treating adults, and children through Neurodevelopmental treatment, gave me not just the knowledge and experience, but also the sensitivity to care for these patients much more than just as patients. I slowly became some " ears " to listen to them, I usually found encouraging words to tell them, and some times, I found myself being their confidant. We built relationships that allowed me to move around a little my treatment and do activities they liked and enjoyed, as part of the therapy, like taking a walk, play a game, or cooking. When my own mom got sick, I became her caregiver for 3 years, and I learned from the nurses in the hospital how to feed her through a gastrointestinal tube, how to monitor her oxygen, take care of the tracheostomy tube, how to control a crisis when her Oxygen went very low, how to administer her medicines, and give her the shots required, so I took care of that at home. I discovered then how much I love helping someone in need.
