About Heidi

I received an Associate's Degree with High Honors from Cabrillo College in Early Childhood Education (ECE). I also completed Specializations in Working with Culturally Diverse Families, Anti Bias Curriculum, and Infant/Toddler Care. I have over 40 ECE units, including infant classes, a special needs class, and a health and safety class designed specifically for childcare providers. I have been certified in Infant/Toddler/Child CPR and First Aid, have negative TB test results, and have been fingerprinted through the Santa Cruz Police Department, in order to work at a children's center. I have my own transportation, a valid CA license, a clean driving record, and have lots of experience transporting children for work purposes. I have worked with children in a variety of settings, with all age groups, with most of my time with infant - preschool (0-5). I have taught in a preschool setting, as well as at an after school care for K-6. I have nannied for several families since 2004, from long-term, multi-year commitments, to just helping them out for the summer, and occasional babysitting as well. I have started with multiple families when their children were just infants, as early as from birth. My goal is to promote physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development for the children I care for. I am reliable, punctual, responsible, and passionate about children. I am outgoing, energetic, and love reading, art, music, and the outdoors. I'm ready to get down on the floor and play, sing, do art and cooking activities, go outside, arrange and go on play-dates, to the park, library or beach and on walks/hikes. I love going on outings to explore and take advantage of everything our beautiful area has to offer! Also, I'm willing to do any light housework you may need done (laundry, cleaning, dishes, meal preparation, etc.) I know a good number of baby signs, and have used this with past families. I have experience cooking, including organic, vegetarian meals for families, and meals for children with special diets, such as gluten-free, peanut allergies, and other unique needs. I am trained in positive discipline. I blend this with a family's beliefs to create a cohesive discipline style that all are comfortable with. This allows for each child to receive an individualized way to work through tough feelings. I facilitate their feelings while ensuring that they do not harm themselves or others, and we focus on the solution rather than punishment. This builds trust, communication, and mutual respect and their self esteem.
