My first experience with someone who has special needs is my uncle who has Down Syndrome. I have always enjoyed spending time with him ever since I was young. Additionally, when I was in middle school my soccer team would play with the VIP team. This team has children with all different types of disabilities. We were each paired with a child and we would help them play soccer. It was such a fun and great experience. In 2019, for one of my early childhood classes I was placed in a special education classroom for the semester. I learned so much about IEPS, inclusion, and just working with children who have a disability in an education setting. Lastly, one of my best friends has a disability and I see her at least once a week and talk to her on the phone everyday. She has taught me a lot about uniqueness and is one of the reasons why I am interested in working with children who have a disability.
