I used to work in direct care with adults with developmental disabilities with the physical age of 18-90. I've worked with dozens of individuals with different diagnosis and needs on a broad spectrum. I've worked in behavioral type homes, to medical assistance type homes, to assisted living apartments for individuals with higher functioning capabilities. I even took up management of group homes and assisted living apartments, until I took a career change in dog handling and dog training. Working with dogs is still an ongoing passion of mine. Working in direct care is an important and sometimes demanding job, I loved it, just not the arduous hours that accompanied that career path. I only have fond memories and feelings working with people with developmental disabilities and I'd be happy to still share that compassion of working with this population a few days a week.
