My experience with special needs individuals extends to those specifically diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Autism. I served as a Personal Care Assistant for a 22-year-old woman, diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. My duties and responsibilities included, but were not limited to, evaluating needs based on behavior, actively communicating with family and therapists concerning needs and goals, maintaining the ongoing assessments of needs and goals, performing physical therapy-based stretches to improve mobility, encouraging interactive activities to maintain positive engagement, encouraging the practice of dexterity skills, as well as maintaining a daily log. As for individuals with Autism, my nephew was diagnosed with Autism as a toddler, so for the past seven years I have assisted him with behavior modification, understanding social cues to improve social interactions, encouraging self-expression through activities, as well as encouraging open communication with others.
