I have a 15-year-old minimally verbal niece whom I have shared an education in autism with. In helping my sister, I know first hand that it takes a village to raise a special need child. I had family support for my neurotypical kids and cannot even begin to imagine what I would have done without it. I operate under the assumption that everyone (on the spectrum or not) is deserving of dignity and my respect.
