I started working with Geriatrics at 17 years old, working with Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. I went on to Nursing School although I quit when I got married and had my family. I stayed home providing child care for others for 5 years. I then worked for corporations, but always missed taking care of people, whether young or elderly. For 4+ years I provided full time care for an 84-year-old woman with advanced Dementia. Presently I am caring for a married couple (90 & 98yrs.) dementia, meds, meals, myriad of duties. I give my best to meet your needs and provide loving care for your loved one.

Gail was hired to take care of a family member while I recovered from surgery. What was to 8 weeks initially ended being 8 months. This was because she was so helpful to us, that I wanted her to stay on. At the time she left her patient felt that he recovered enough to be independent. Gail, on day one, familiarized herself with the needs and care for my family member and also with my evolving needs while recovering from surgery and, quite frankly my exhaustion dealing with his needs. She got him into a routine which he needed. She engaged him physically, verbally and challenged him to do more than he wanted to but very much needed. She managed his medication which can be tedious but necessary, and in so many ways, became a cherished and necessary member of the family. Summarizing Gail's attributes for a caretaker: very intelligent, takes initiative, familiarizes herself with the diagnosis and medical alert points, is gentle and caring, but also is not a pushover.
