(I am a trans man and hadn't come out when I made this profile. I go by Teddy!) I have personal and professional experience with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. My mother worked as a paraprofessional at my junior high, and by eating lunch with her and her class, I developed a friendship with a girl who was intellectually disabled in sixth grade and with a girl who had Down Syndrome in eighth grade. Additionally, I have an autistic brother. My personal experience has given me a deep understanding of the patience, compassion, and adaptability needed in this field. In fall 2020, I worked as an in-home support services nanny for a toddler with cystic fibrosis. I found that very fulfilling. I have also worked as a substitute teacher for three years, including semi-regularly taking positions in center classrooms. I would love to have a chance to work with special needs individuals!
