Esther cared for my husband who has Parkinson's Disease and dementia while we wintered in Hawaii. She performed all of the ADLs, supervised his workouts at the gym, took him for walks, and cooked meals from scratch. When his health declined from sepsis, she taught me and visiting family how to turn him, change him, and brush his teeth in bed, as well as safely transfer him. Her skill at caring for a bed-bound patient, as well as her calm and nurturing presence, got us through this difficult time. Esther even helped to transition my husband back to the mainland--consulting with our hospice nurse about what to do on the airplane should a crisis arise. She stayed with us 4 days in Chicago, which allowed me to hire and her to train a live-in caregiver. She helped prepare me for this new phase of care--giving advice and encouragement, while anticipating my needs every step along the way. Friends and family marveled at her care. Esther has set the bar high for future caregivers.
