In 2022, my father was diagnosed with COPD and went on to home hospice care. I was his primary caretaker. I spent 24 hours a day with him, feeding him, showering him, managing his medication, and just spending time with him so he didn't have to feel alone. It was a laborious experience but now that he's gone I would do it over 1000 times if it meant I could spend time with him again. He didn't have any friends or family to care for him besides me and his experience made me wonder; how many older adults in America are needing help and not getting it? After this experience I realized seniors are some of the most important and under-cared for members of our society. I don't have an extensive paid background for senior care or a nursing degree but I do have an immense amount of passion for helping those in need, and trying to show them the love and care that I showed to my father as his caretaker.
