After I graduated from Kent State University in 2008, I worked in South Carolina teaching high school English Language Arts. I taught grades 9-12, including Honors classes. Many of my students struggled academically, and I worked with them to pass their End of Course Exams, graduate, and get into college. I also worked as a tutor for students who were medically home-bound and could not attend school. In 2013, I moved back to Akron, Ohio to be closer to family and start one of my own. I worked as an English teacher at a dropout-recovery high school and worked with students who need a lot of support, emotional and academic. I loved the job and stayed in that position for 10 years. Currently, I still work for the same company as an Instructional Coach, working with teachers in all content areas in all of our 16 Ohio schools. I have experience not only in English Language Arts, but also in Reading and Math Intervention, Science and Social Studies, and also with ELL students.

I have worked with Emily for approximately three years and in that time I have grown to know her as a friend and a teacher. Emily is truly a passionate person when it comes to English and she has a vast knowledge of American Literature, British Literature and World Literature. She prides herself in collecting books and enjoys writing papers (she is always the first person I go to when I need something grammatically correct). Within her classroom, she holds her students accountable by promoting their best work and having them rise to the expectation of assignment. When students need extra support, she is there ready to help. As a friend, Emily has been my moral support in many life situations. She has been the voice of reason, an ear to listen, and has given me smiles when I needed it the most. Getting to spend time with her outside of work is truly wonderful because we get to explore our wonderful city and our conversation inspires us both to be better people and teachers. Emily is a perfect addition to anyone's life and as an educational support system.
