From a very young age the effects of a premature birth hampered my ability to develop along a standard trajectory. I underwent months of early intervention to improve motor functioning and limit the residual effects of delayed speech. During my elementary education years I was placed in small classrooms focused on providing additional reading and comprehension skills. In middle and high school I found myself reflecting on the support that I had been fortunate enough to receive, and it was while doing so, and realizing just how far I had come due to the tireless help of each individual along the way, that I decided I wanted to give back and be that help for others. Now, as a Moderate Disabilities 5-15 Teacher in a sub-seperate classroom, I actively modify assignments, provide ABA based behavior support, facilitate IEP meetings, and complete MCAS Alt Portfolios, I feel I have the depth of experience needed to successfully impact the children and students I am able to work with.
