I have done care in one way or another since I was a teenager, for special needs children and adults as well as children without developmental disabilities. I worked several private contract jobs for families with children with disabilities, mostly those on the autism spectrum as well as cerebral palsy. I have 5+ years experience as an independent living skills trainer with adults 19-40 years of age and with a variety of needs, both physical and behavioral. More recently I have been a part-time nanny for a 2-year-old girl of normal cognitive function. I also have experience working as a summer school art teacher for a Montessori school with children grades K-6th as well as a substitute one-on-one for children with special needs in a classroom setting. Emily has been outstanding with our three children. She can match their high energy, keeps them entertained with excursions to the park, crafts, cooking, etc,. is never fazed, and always keeps things moving forward in a positive direction. She manages our special needs child beautifully, balancing her needs (as an 11 year old) with our other two children (ages 11 and 7), and finesses a positive relationship with with our 11 year old son who is adept at power struggles. She has pulled of this juggling act each time for occasional sitting over a number of months with our family. Our kids love her and I recommend her most highly, and hope she will be able to work with other families AND always be available when I call.
