About Emily

Hi there! I'm a graduate student at UNR, finishing up my MA in political science this spring. I studied linguistics and computer science during my undergrad at Scripps College and graduated with honors in 2022. While my focus is in social science, I've taken many high level math and computer science classes (up to/including calc III, linear algebra, and discrete math). For the past two years, I've worked as a math and reading tutor at Kumon and have loved helping kids gain academic confidence and solidify their skills. I'm a patient and energetic tutor excited to help and to learn. My goal during sessions is always to first isolate what is making a certain topic challenging or confusing, walk through my student's understanding of said topic, collaboratively fill in gaps in this understanding, and then finally work through examples with the goal of generalizing the solution.
