About Ella

During a program I did where I lived with a host family in Hawaii in exchange for work, I tutored their daughter in math, english, and anything else she needed help with. We were all talking story in the living room after dinner, while her mom was helping her with her math homework. She is a high functioning autistic child, who obviously has a neurodivergent brain and learns differently. She was having a hard time learning from her mom, on the verge of tears and ready to pull her hair out. I volunteered my assistance as I was the same way growing up due to my adhd. Soon after, her mom gave me a full time role of tutoring due to my patience, resilience, creativity, compassion and grace. I was able to help her learn her curriculum using songs, fun games, and hands on techniques that are fun and engaging. Also, being able to be totally patient and present with a child when they're trying to learn is so important for them. Helping build their confidence and understanding.
