Delores, “Laurie” Y. is a godsend to anyone who is fortunate to have her caring for a loved one. Laurie answered my care.com request the day after I requested help with Alzheimer’s care. My husband and I received guardianship of my mother-in-law who is mid-to-late-stage Alzheimer’s. We both work and were unsure how to manage care with two school-age kids. Laurie and I exchanged numbers, spoke about my MIL’s condition and the next day, Laurie showed up with a smile ready for anything. Laurie is a professional who has worked with dementia and ALS clients. She recommended books to help us understand the journey we were on. She tried many activities to keep my MIL active. Not all activities were successful, but Laurie never stopped trying. Laurie worked 5 days a week from 8am to 4:45pm. She made meals, planned activities to keep my mother-in-law engaged, and often took my MIL with her to feed her horse; an activity my MIL enjoyed every day. They also participated in community gardening. Laurie loves animals and animals love her. My rowdy dog anticipated her arrival every morning and loved having her around. Laurie is an intelligent woman who is trustworthy, compassionate, reliable and above all, kind. Laurie and I communicated before she arrived in the morning and after she left to share the day’s events. We communicated when we noticed changes in my MIL. We recently moved my MIL to a facility. Laurie and I worked together to plan the transition. My son helped me write this review and says, “Laurie wasn’t just here to monitor Granny, she was invested in her relationship with us and Granny.“ I could not have said it better. We are blessed to have her in our lives. My family is grateful to Laurie and want the next family she works with to know she is a gift from God to take on such crucial work as a caregiver.
