Although I don't have medical training or education, my life's journey has brought me to caregiving. I've always been more compassionate and empathetic than most people. Which is how I ended up caring for my grandfather once a week for 24 hours. Earlier this summer, while considering a shift away from my career in marketing I met a local family that needed a hand. I became caregiver to a man with ALS. I perform light housework, take care of the pets, grocery shop, meal plan, food prep, run errands and offer companionship and physical assistance. I also care for for a toddler with some physical challenges. We play, go for walks, sing songs and I take care of diapers, bottles, meals, and some light housework. I've grown close with these families and am comfortable proactively pitching in and doing whatever is needed to be helpful. So you can leave (or stay) knowing your loved one is in caring hands.
