About Deborah

During two years of my undergraduate career I worked as a CNA at a nursing home. What lead me to that job was my desire to attend medical school after I had graduated with a Biology degree at UMass Boston. I am extremely grateful that I picked working at a nursing home to experience what it is like to work with people on a very personal level. Working in the nursing home for these two years did not only reassure me the empathy I have for others, but it motivated me to not give up in my college career, and get started on my med school application. From working with the elderly, I learned that maintaining someone's dignity is our most important job, even though they might not be able to completely know what is going on. The reason why I am looking to work as a home aid instead of a nursing home now is because I want to be able to dedicate my time to 1 person at a time, and be able to help them on a higher level, instead of having to take care of 10-14 patients all at once.
