I am a RN. I started my nursing care 11 years ago working in a medical surgical unit at the VA. After two years in this position I transitioned to private care nursing. This was a much better fit. I had the time to work closely with my patients/clients, really get to know them and be a part of their medical and personal support team. I often worked with other members of a team - CPAs, pain doctors, primary care doctors, and other helping professionals. I worked with a client for the past 8 years who suffered from a traumatic brain injury and chronic pain issues due to a serious car accident more than 20 years ago. I also worked with her husband who had chronic pain . I was able to attend to basic medical care, medication management, getting them to many appointments each day and helping my client to attend to personal needs, recreational events, meals, shopping and shared activities with her that were both relaxing and stimulating.
