I took care of my housemate for two years following a fall in the front room of his house. I provided live-in assistance in exchange for free rent. I found that I really enjoy helping older people and took care of him until he died on September 28, 2009. He suffered from COPD (emphysema), chronic back and leg pain, venous stasis, and generalized anxiety. I prepared and administered his medication every four hours (except from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and because he was home-bound all the time the last year, ran errands, kept up minor home repairs, and cleaned the house. He did have a caregiver from an agency that came for six hours a day each week day, so that I could work.
