I've grown up around people with special needs my whole life, With a sibling who is developmentally slow. I introduced a special program at my school to help younger kids with disabilities just entering high school, be paired up with a senior who knows the ropes and can help them in any way needed. From homework help to just helping them to feel socially accepted in a time when that's seems like a challenge for everyone. I interned for two years in high school at multiply nursing homes in my area and even Saratoga Hospital. I currently am half way through my Bachelors degree in Nursing. After high school, I worked with a man who suffered from ALS. He could no longer talk, nor move by the time I met him. I made his meals while he could still eat, then learned to tube feed when his ability to swallow was lost. I bathed him and dressed him. We did range of motion exercises twice daily. I was in charge of all his medications. And at the end of the we became very close like family. He then passed away. After this point, I decided to get a job with Saratoga Bridges, in an ICF. Working with in a residential home with 12 individuals all wheelchair bound. With a variety of diagnoses.
