I spent 5 years working with a special needs boy. When I first began with him he was on a GI tube with a Mickey button. I was responsible for administering his foods, liquids and medications through the GI tube. He remained on the GI tube until after his 10th birthday when he was finally fully able to eat on his own. I was also responsible for diapering him throughout the entire 5 years. Near the end of my time with him he was nearly out of diapers, but he was still unable to use the bathroom on his own. His parents trusted me to completely care for him in many situations- including taking him and his younger brother on a trip to Washington DC for a week to visit his grandfather. I also spent year working with a family with three children under the age of four, the two little ones had feeding issues and needed feeding tubes. This family had very high needs and was a constant challenge. I am very comfortable in caring for families with very challenging situations.
