About Carrianne

I have worked as a reading tutor with the Family Learning Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan for two years. This included working with children with disabilities and dyslexia. We emphasized phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. I recently became TEFL certified (teaching English as a foreign language). While this included instruction on how language is learned and English grammar basics, it also was a rigorous lesson-planning and curriculum development course with many applicable skills. The course included teaching practice for all age groups - preschool to retirement age. I enjoy tutoring because I appreciate how each student has unique skills and approaches to learning that we can build on in a creative way. I am passionate about literacy, language fluency and forging a path for learner success. In my spare time, I like to dance, hike, travel, read and cook! My skills include adaptable communication techniques, skills assessment, patience, creativity and flexibility.
