My experience working as a caregiver for individuals with special needs began in 2014 while in my undergraduate (graduated with a BA in Psychology). I began nannying these two boys, one who had Autism. He was 5 years old and not in school. During my time with him, I would teach him things that he would generally learn in school (i. e. social skills, counting numbers, writing, etc.). I now have a full-time job working with children all whom have an Autism diagnosis. During my college years, I also volunteered at a transition home for young teens that were placed there for various reasons. These included: custody battles, runaways, etc. I feel honored to work with these individuals and help them have a voice. They are constantly teaching new things about life and myself everyday. Side note: I do know a little bit of sign language. I do know the alphabet along with some other commonly used words. Not fluent by any means.
