About Carla

While attending high school, I began to tutor middle school students as part of an after-school program in any subjects they were falling behind in (mostly ELA, math, and social studies). Once I became an employee in the Pleasantville School District, I began to work with children one-on-one and design lesson plans to tailor their specific needs, in the subject areas of science, social studies, math, and reading. I teach the material, making sure to clarify what they don't understand and apply the concepts to real-world situations. I first work on the material alongside them, and then let them try it individually. I have worked with both mainstream students, as well as with special needs students, tailoring my teaching mannerisms in order to best adhere to their needs. I plan on starting my teaching career next year, so tutoring has helped me recognize what techniques and tools have been successful, and what I can work on.
