Bryn has worked for us since May. She did laundry well, and we did like her a lot. She came in twice a week and requested to be paid in cash, so we agreed to her terms, and everything went well. However, when I hired her, I explained while she was here, I would like her to vacuum and mop the living room floors with a Swiffer (not moping with bucket and water), wash dishes, and make beds and sometimes check the fridge for expired condiments; out of that, she vacuumed every time, moped only if I asked her to, maybe once or twice the entire time she worked for us, made our bed but never made kids beds and washed dishes only if she can load in the dishwasher but if something is bigger she will leave it for me. She never checked the fridge. It was not ideal, but I let it slide because her primary job was to wash clothes. Unfortunately, the tricky part was her problem with authority. I found some nice tops ripped at the strap and put them in a drawer. It was suspicious, and I asked her about it, which she did not take well. That night, she sent me multiple texts where she stated, "I am not better than her," that we pay her $25, and that is not enough for the work she does, and that she is not our maid, which was concerning because she was providing help at our home. It made me feel uneasy, and we felt threatened by words like that from someone who had been coming to our house for months. Overall, I think she was okay to help, but she may not necessarily want to do a job like this because she thinks it's below her. If you hire her, you will have to manage her emotions and reassure her, which may be hard when you are a mom and trying to do multiple things simultaneously, especially if you have a job, too.
