I really enjoy working with individuals with special needs. I have been surrounded with this all my life, my cousin who is 26 is autistic and I have two cousins who are deaf. I am attending NCTC right now and will have my associate of arts in Teaching after this semester and plan on teaching special education as soon as I complete my bachelor's degree. Throughout high school I was involved with a program called Circle of Friends. I enjoyed this because it gave me a chance to reach out and be a friend to children who were so amazing, this changed my life. After high school I worked in a group home for a while with special needs adults. At this job I was in charge of the day program. I was also a staff member in the girl's home. I worked one-on-one with a teenager who had cerebral palsy. I loved this job, it was just not working out with my school schedule. I assisted the clients with preparing for bedtime and helped them with morning routines, assisted them in cooking, cleaning, washing clothes and dishes. I would love the opportunity to work in this field again and have the opportunity to make a difference.
