I have been working at Carol Woods, a retirement community in Chapel Hill since December 2023 as a Medical Escort and Companion. I accompany residents to doctors' appointments, read to residents, take them for walks in their wheelchairs, and help those who live in independent cottages with light household tasks during their recuperation from surgery or a fall. I love my job at Carol Woods but I do not have regular shifts there, so I am looking for additional hours, particularly on the weekends. From April 2023-October 2024, I lived in the home of a lady with dementia in her home. For her, I did her weekly laundry, prepared meals, took her to the grocery store and played memory trivia games with her. We also went out to eat at nearby restaurants and the mall. Additionally I reminded her to take her medicine. I am not a CNA. I have not done personal care and I am not trained to do transfers or medical procedures.

I highly recommend Barbara to anyone looking for non-medical assistance for an elderly loved one. Barbara showed up for our initial interview meeting in January 2023. She was on time, professionally dressed, and ready to take notes. My mother has sight and walking disabilities and was not getting the exercise and intellectual stimulation that she requires in her facility. Barbara immediately offered creative ways in which she could support my mom. Since that time Barbara has been an important partner helping care for my mom, offering her verbal quizzes, bringing her laptop to watch TED talks (her idea), discussing current events, exercising my mom safely with a walker, bringing treats for special occasions, and offering genuine friendship and emotional support. As importantly, Barbara follows up with me quickly about any progress my mom is making, or concerns about my mom or the facility. This allows me to know that if I can’t visit my mom that week, I have a partner in Barbara that has my mom’s best interest at heart who will contact me with any issues. In closing, Barbara is a warm, responsible companion whom I recommend with enthusiasm for someone needing senior care. Steve Durham, NC
