I love being around seniors and my first job working with them was earned by my devotion to them. One summer, I was staying across from an assisted living center and I had gone to ask if they had any opening. Of course, I was turned down because I did not have any work experience in that field. Nevertheless, I would come by every day to visit with the residents sitting outside the home. The registered nurse in charge took notice of it and offered me a job, and that is how I started in the field. Soon enough, she assigned me to the memory care unit where I worked until I left the facility. I went on to work for a nursing home where based on my previous experience, they also assigned me to be part of the memory care crew. I would take my time on weekends to have the residents help me choose the dress they wanted to put on, combed their hair, polish the ladies' nails and put make up on them, and the look on their face said it all for me; they felt so much better knowing that they have been dolled up. I felt much better knowing that I have helped build their confidence up, all while maintaining their dignity.
