In 2015 I was an English Second Language tutor and Title 1 tutor at Ann Arbor Public Schools. I worked with students ranging from 5-7 years old. While working with English Second Language learners, we primarily worked on letter ID, followed by recognizing commonly used words with pictures, to eventually begin reading kindergarten-level books. Learning was done by playing various games that I designed or found online. When tutoring Title 1 students in reading I made benchmarks to track progress. Students and I worked in small groups playing games and participating in many read-aloud activities to foster new decoding techniques.
