My son has spina bifida, hydrocephalus, has a shunt, chairi malformation type 2, and had scoliosis. We currently just fixed scoliosis with a 5 month stay in hospital for spinal fusion. I know how to preform catheterization, change children, keep good hygiene for them, while also trying to teach independence when it's possible to do so.. of course that's not the case for everyone. My son is also special education and I've attended a ton of district IEP meetings and know how to stand ground and help parents understand what is going on if they never need an extra hand at the schools.
