I am writing to pass along my strong recommendation for Angelina as both an early childhood care provider and an employee generally. She has worked and lived in my house as a care professional–essentially a more skilled version of an au pair–for the past two years. I have four children: two older children (9, 7 years of age) with extensive developmental disabilities, and two younger children (4, 2 years of age) who are developmentally normal. I am a stay-at-home parent but the severity of my older children’s disabilities is such that I cannot care for them all simultaneously myself. Angelina’s duties were split between looking after the children and helping to manage their belongings, so she demonstrated both care-based skills and executive function skills. She helped to bathe, dress, and feed the children. She prepared their breakfasts every weekday morning and helped with doing their laundry and putting it away. She attended speech therapy sessions for the older children and helped perform the exercises the therapist recommended for them during their play time. She also improvised therapeutic exercises for them based on her own training and educational experience, helping them to make significant progress in their gross and fine motor development. Angelina worked tirelessly to imbue the children with a greater sense of independence and responsibility for themselves and each other. She enthusiastically took the children out into the community in different groupings (sometimes just the younger kids, sometimes just the older, sometimes one of each) to perform routine tasks like errands or getting coffee. This helped the older children become more acclimated to community environments, especially after the isolation of the pandemic years. It also helped introduce the younger children to elementary acts of assistance with household maintenance and the care of their siblings. At all times Angelina was punctual, responsible, thoughtful, and enthusiastic in performing her duties. She was a caring and respectful household member and a responsive employee. She undertook to apply constructive criticism when it occurred and was very excited to apply new instructional methods and practices when she learned them. She showed our children profound love and affection. She also was able to establish firm, calm behavioral management even when they were in the throes of behavioral challenges. Additionally, I was a passenger on many occasions while she drove our cars and I can attest that she is a highly competent, skillful, and safe driver, even under stressful circumstances. We have benefited in countless ways from her many skills and kindnesses over the past two years, and we wholeheartedly recommend her for any position involving the care and instruction of children.
