Caring and understanding the needs of persons with disabilities has became a passion of mine after having a sibling with a developmental disability. When I was 15 years old my youngest brother was born with a congenital heart defect, there was many surgeries and medical appointment in the following years as my family learned how to best care for him. This sparked my passion and advocacy for people with disabilities. As I started college I was involved with Special Olympics and have 900 volunteer hours working with people with disabilities in multiple different settings. Throughout college I also working as a Deaf Blind Intervener for a man with CHARGE syndrome, where I gained many skills and experience over those 2 years. I ended up minoring in disability studies and community inclusion at my university and continue to educate myself and others on how to advocate for people with disabilities.
