During high school I was often drawn to help my peers who had special needs, although I was never formally asked to. One time I even put helping other kids in front of my own needs and it poorly affected my grades. The following year was called into the office where the principal told me many teachers had acknowledged my patience with special needs students, specifically the "hard to teach" students, and thought that I worked very well with them. I was asked to teach one of the students in a 1:1 setting. Other teachers had me come help occasionally with 1:1 aiding as well. I already knew that my future job would involve helping others, but my high school experiences influenced where I would end up. I have worked doing Residential Habitation with a wide range of cognitively impaired clients since I was 18. I have experience with facility, in home care and I have ample experience with dementia patients. I always try to deliver the most person centered care I can.
