My name is Wendy, and I am a volunteer mentor for the A family. The A are refugees from Afghanistan. They have lived here since Dec 2021. The dad served in the Afghani army. For his safety, and the safety of his family, they were evacuated to the U. S. Their oldest son, with his wife and babies, had to stay in Afghanistan, as the U. S. policy cut off evacuees who were not dependents. in these two years, the three daughters have been in school. The son has been working to help with finances. The dad was hit by a car (a hit and run) on New Years Day of 2023. He is now disabled. He needs to learn English and computers to be able to work. The mom works at the D. I. and is not successfully learning English. The girls need help with pronunciation, reading and writing, and vocab.
