We're searching for a caregiver for our son, Nick. It wouldn't allow me to show dates of need but we're looking for somebody that could sit for date nights, sometimes afternoons into the evening and eventually weekends/when we vacation. Nick is 24 and has Down Syndrome and Autism. He is non verbal and requires 24/7 supervision. He takes medication at night and as needed during the day. He is small in stature; he's 4'7" and 115 lbs. He is a slow and careful mover. His likes are fairly simple; He's able to use these independently. While he's nonverbal, he enjoys interaction and being talked to. He understands a lot more than he's able to communicate. He does have behavioral issues. He does not hit, bite, kick, etc... He will fake cry almost daily that is annoying. He has mobility issues so he definitely can't chase you, run, or elope in any way. He is not in a wheelchair and is able to move about the house easily. He doesn't "get into things" as he's mostly sedentary. He has a bedtime ritual that is easy and actually enjoys. He's incontinent and wears diapers. Overall, he's happy when his tummy is full, has plenty to drink (meds make him thirsty), his tablet is charged and volume turned up and has a clean diaper. He lives with his mother, step father, a 14 yo cat and a 17 yo teacup chihuahua. We live a calm, quiet life. While he's helpless, he's fairly easy to care for. He loves to laugh, be tickled and shown affection. If you're interested, we could FaceTime and/or visit. I understand that this type of caregiving isn't for everybody, that's why I want to be fully transparent about his needs.
