Job Summary
As an after-school counselor you will be responsible for a small group of children with differing needs. You will interact, engage and guide the group through activities and assist with any therapeutic or medical needs of a child.
Responsibilities
Responsible for care, safety and well-being of children in group.
Perform necessary care needs for children to keep them healthy and happy.
Keep a safe, clean and sanitary environment for the children.
Must be patient and kind.
Learn and perform varying care techniques for children with differing needs.
Create and implement weekly lesson plans by children's skills and needs.
Complete all required trainings.
Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with educational best practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent and two years' experience working with children.
Must be patient, kind and have a passion for children with differing needs.
Must be willing to work with children with differing needs, including but not limited to changing diapers or connecting G-tube for feeding.
Willing to learn and perform care techniques, varying therapies and required care needs of children.
Lift 30 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Human, Social or Behavioral Science.
Experience working with children in childcare settings is highly desirable.
Familiarity with special education practices is a plus.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.
Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective teaching methodologies.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
A passion for education and a commitment to fostering the growth of every student.
3 plus years' experience working with children with special needs.
