About the job
My brother is a 29-year-old stroke survivor. He had his stroke five years ago and has since been left with speech and motor difficulties on his right side. We need someone to come help him with some house keeping, life admin tasks, and to sit and help him practice talking and reading. Right now, we are wrapping up getting funding for his care so we plan to have you start sometime in December or January. We are looking for someone who is: - Kind and compassionate - M. struggles to speak and often is very mean to himself. He needs someone who can be patient and kind to him. - Hard-working - there will probably be a lot that needs to get done in the time we have together. - Strong English skills -because you will be helping Matt re-learn how to speak, read, and write. - FUN - M. had a tough five years and there will probably be a lot of times where we just need you to accompany him to something fun or social. - Organized - M. will need help organizing his stuff in a way that works for him. You'll be an integral part of helping him create and maintain those systems. For example, M. has a hard time hanging up clothes so we need a clothing system. - Good communication - my sister and I help take care of M. We will be communicating with you about things you notice M. needing or that we need you to help him with. - Transportation - you may need to drive M. places because he doesn't have a drivers license yet. M. is a sweet soul that has had a hard life. You'll be changing it for the better. Can't wait to get started!
