About who needs care: Dad is unsteady with his balance, and he has essential tremor, neuropathy, restless legs and other common old age issues. A huge problem is his hearing, which he still struggles with in spite of a cochlear implant. He is a fanatical rail fan, and has hundreds of model trains. These days he is focused on selling these and related items at his stall in an antique shop downtown. He also enjoys running the trains on his layout, but it is too messy to use much. In addition, Dad is devoted to his faith and Church. In an ideal day, Dad would probably enjoy spending some time with friends and family, sorting his mail, and getting items ready to sell at his stall. He also enjoys getting outside and doing yard work but this has become difficult and hazardous. He enjoys going to church except that he can't hear well enough. About the care needs: Dad's caregiver needs tons of patience, a strong voice, empathy, and should be a good listener. They should be neutral about politics, etc. because Dad's blood pressure goes up whether you agree or disagree with him! He gets along with most personality types, but will tire if you talk too much. Good driving skills, and familiarity with various hearing devices like cochlear implants and sophisticated hearing aids would be a big plus. Interest in trains, engineering, the outdoors, and church activities would be helpful but isn't required. Right now, we are mainly looking for someone willing to drive him to Fort Collins and back about once or twice a month, plus some errands around Cheyenne. He also needs help around the house with cleaning chores and meal prep. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
