About who needs care: Stroke recovery and potentially beginning dementia. Looking for 10/10:30 p.m. - 8/8:30 a.m. He will be asleep most of this time, except for potty calls (needs occasional prompting to return to bed when it's too early; we are shooting for 7:30-8 a.m. waking, ideally). Currently hands off, except to occasionally help adjust a sock or push in/pull out a chair for him; toilets and bathes with supervision but completes the task alone with some prompting ("hold the hand rail/sit down/here are your clothes"). Has cereal or oatmeal for breakfast and can usually assemble it with supervision, we just ask that he doesn't carry anything while walking (uses a 2ww). Mostly just making sure he makes it to/from the restroom and stays in bed until a reasonable time (likes to try and get ready for church, visiting a friend, or going out for coffee). We use a three-fold supervision system at night: baby monitor with audio/video, a "call button" (that alerts to a portable box), and we also have a floor sensor that alerts to a "pager"). In addition, the doors are alarmed to ensure he doesn't get out quietly, if one of the alerts are missed and he gets up alone. About the care needs: Someone who can be firm when needed would be a good match, as he can be stubborn about returning to bed/not getting ready to go somewhere when he desires/following showering directions. He is Catholic, and while it's not required, someone religious would be wonderful to help distract him with prayers or general religious conversation. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
