About who needs care: My mother is shut-in and has moderate to severe COPD. She uses an oxygen concentrator and takes a few medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and anxiety. She doesn't like to bath often, but does keep herself reasonably clean. She gets many of her meals for the independent living facility where she lives and will prepare simple meals for herself otherwise. She has some trouble with IBS and urinary incontinence and will usually wear disposable incontinence briefs but has had accidents in the past the require some additional housekeeping and personal attention. She doesn't do much housekeeping on her own, but will do some laundry. She doesn't do much other than watch tv and play on her phone or tablet. I would like more interaction for her but because she doesn't leave her home that doesn't seem possible any longer. She does receive assistance through a company that provides these services but quite honestly their caregivers are dismissed early by mom even when there's work to be done and they don't spend time with her to get to know her. I'd like to see someone come more often, do more for my mom, get to know her, and communicate better with my sister and I about how things are going, at an affordable price. About the care needs: Someone that is compassionate, hardworking but maybe a little headstrong in order to insist on things when my mom pushes back on care that she really needs. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
