About who needs care: I am disabled with damaged nerves in my lower back and 5 vertebrae fused together. I live at very high pain levels. ( 7 on the scale of 1 to 10. and sometimes higher. All physical activates cause my pain levels to go higher and force me to rest to get the pain back under control. I am able to dress myself, shower, cook, drive and do my own shopping. I will never have an ideal day because of my physical restrictions. I just have to do the best I can. As for hobbies a enjoy drawing and painting, watching TV, reading and spending time with my dog and cat. About the care needs: I prefer female care givers who like to participate in conversations and have a sense of humor. I used to get "tailored support for older adults" through DSHS. Then two years ago my new case worker (They only seemed to last a month or two.) called me to do my annual assessment to determine if I still qualified for the program. She asked all the same questions I had been asked for the 6 years I had been on the program and all of my answers were the same as they had always been. At the end of her questions she told me that I no longer qualified and stopped my tailored support. I asked her why I didn't qualify and she said, "Because you don't require assistance using the toilet or getting dressed". SHE WAS WRONG! I spent the next 9 months making countless calls to DSHS trying to get someone to correct that mistake. Eventually I got a supervisor to reapprove me for the tailored support program. But by that time none of the 13 agencies in Clark County could hire enough care provider workers to cover all the need. So, I have been without any assistance for two years now. And I am not happy about it!!! Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
